Thank you for surviving the "pick up" rehearsal and once again proving why "pick up" rehearsals are needed.
Tomorrow night, we're back in business with show 4!
Call is at 5:30, but I will be here a little earlier for those of you who need the extra time.
House closes at 6:25, so make sure that you have everything you need (microphones, any props) figured out before we turn off the backstage lights.
6:45 is warm up time. I'm made a request from everyone that we do take these seriously. Please when we say "1-minute until Warm-up!" that you take the minute and start to make your way around the piano. The faster you start warmups, the more "extra time" you'll have before the official show start at:
7:00
Thursday's show is being recorded for YouTube, so this is the show that you and allegedly 1000's of people will be seeing over the years. Make it the best show yet, because whatever you do will be there forever and ever and ever.
If something goes wrong like tonight, you have to stay in character...no matter what. Your audience paid money to see a "professional looking" show, and we want to give them a "professional looking" show. During 2 of these last 3 shows, we're hosting special guests from the 5th Avenue Theatre who will be judgy on your performance. I'm not telling you which of the 2 nights they will be here, but they are coming again!
I'm seriously considering sandbagging the curtain stage left if people can't stop touching it. Even after mentioning it during intermission, I still saw people walking on and off stage purposely throwing the curtain out of the way. If I sandbag it, it won't move at all. The only drawback is that you'll probably hurt yourself if you move or kick it. If it's a problem Thursday, Friday.....I'm bringing on the sand.
One last thing...if you can spread the word. Please, please, please...no matter how hot it is, DO NOT leave the classroom door open with a chair holding it open. I closed it tonight, and noticed many times that it was open. I was told it wasn't like that all night, but seriously, it only takes a few minutes of everyone on stage for someone to quickly go through and steal phones, purses, and whatever. It's happened before (2 previous shows) and I really don't want it to happen again. We've also had "weird" people just walk in and start talking to people. Scary "weird" people that we had to call the cops on. For your safety and the safety of your items, please just don't leave the door open. I've mentioned this before, but I think it's been forgotten. If you see it open, please close it. If someone complains, tell them why you're doing it.
Get some rest tonight! You have 3 shows to go with hopefully the biggest audiences that you've seen!
I really need a "I survived Pick-up Rehearsal" shirt.
