Obviously you won't get comments until after the show tomorrow, but I would iike you to share what you've heard from the Senior citizens. They can be the toughest and most honest critics that you'll get, and we can take their advice and learn from it. How's our diction? They'll tell us. How was the acting and choreography? They'll tell us. Sometimes they'll be super nice and sometimes they'll be brutally honest about things. It's all helpful to us if you share what they thought.
For Opening night here are things for you to know:
I'll be at "Avengers: Infinity War" so...
Oh, wait. I'll be here at 5:00ish again. Call time for this show, this year is at 5:30 pm. That's a 1/2 hour earlier than usual, but that's because we start a 1/2 hour earlier now. Please do not be later than 5:30 without texting or calling someone. It's frustrating having to drop our routines so we can hunt you down. Just tell us in advance that you're running late, and we won't hold a grudge. Make sure it's a good reason though.
When you arrive you need to do two things: SIGN IN and GET YOUR MICROPHONE. Our doors open at 6:30 for our audience so you can't go out into the Man in Chair's apartment after that time. Just get your mic and keep track of it.
Take the time from 5:30-6:45 to get ready. You obviously may not need that much time, but just be sure that you are ready to warm up at 6:45.
Two things that we do on opening night are things that you can participate in. One of them is signing the show poster. You can look in the hallway at past shows for ideas on what to write. Apparently, it's tradition that the seniors are the only ones who can write on the actual poster. Be sure to sign the poster that night because the next day it'll get laminated. The poster will be either on the piano or one of the tables.
The second thing is voting for your favorite cast, crew and more for our annual Drama Awards extravaganza complete with REAL awards! The ballots (or ballets if you are Kitty) will be either on the piano or one of the tables.
At 6:25, I'll announce that the house is closed. That means that from that time on, you can't be in any areas where an audience member can see you. That includes obviously, the auditorium, but also you can't hang outside doors either. Also at that time, if we don't have enough people to sell tickets, I'll be putting stage crew members to help out. If you know any honest people who would like to sell tickets and are too cheap to see the show themselves, we could use them. I'd rather have too many than not enough.
At 6:45 It's warm up time! We will have you warm up vocally and also you'll be doing some diction exercises. The 6:45 time is mandatory. We've noticed how things can be when cast members don't warm up. How else are you going to do whatever you do with real energy? If you find you are 1/2 dressed or not done with makeup, wigs and costumes by then, you need to get here earlier next time.
at 6:55, I'll announce FIVE MINUTES! I'll head out to check on the audience and to make sure everything is ready to go by 7:00.
We start promptly at 7:00 UNLESS there is a long line of people waiting to buy tickets. It's the only reason that we would start late. IF someone backstage, could give a 1-minute warning (we use AT&T time) that would be awesome.
I'll flash the auditorium lights if all looks good, and then I'll turn them off. Man in Chair can take his chair and the show can begin!
After the show is complete, we'll clean up before everyone leaves. Do not try to sneak out because your parents are here. You must ask if you can go if you are trying to leave before everyone else. If you saw the other thread about clean up, you just have to push the chairs in. No one is going to vacuum my floor. Be sure to wipe down the tables if there is make up on them. Mirrors need to come down and all props and costumes should be put away.
On Friday, we can leave the mirrors up, but we do want to make sure ALL garbage is thrown away and off of the floor because....rats. Make sure all water bottles and mic tape are tossed. I still was picking up water bottles and finding mic tape Tuesday morning.
If you have any opening night questions, just post them here! Break a leg Thursday! *
*not literally. Please do not break yourself.
