2 weeks and 1 day before your first audience and we've got a lot of work to do!
Today's rehearsal will pretty much run like yesterday, except we should be done by 5:00. The nice thing about Act 2 is that it's barely a 1/2 hour long which is why most theatre companies don't bother with a true intermission. So we should be able to possibly do it twice, which is nice, because sometimes Act 2 doesn't get as much love as Act 1.
We're following the same schedule, but I'd like us to start Act 2 at 2:40 since the pit does not need as much time to set up today. That means at 2:30 you should be gathered around the piano to warm up. Get here as soon as you can after school to grab your mic and do a mic check. I remembered (too late) yesterday how impossible it is to do a mic check once the band arrives.
So to simplify:
2:15-2:30 sign in and grab your mic! Do a mic test. I'll be at the sound board if Antonio isn't there yet.
2:30-2:35 piano warmups
2:35-2:39 prop checks, any other types of warmups. You probably will not have the time to do a full group warmup on stage because at :
2:40 Act 1 begins with Man in Chair finishing his monologue.
We have the pit until 4:00, so if time permits we'll run Act 2 twice and then do notes. Then we'll work on anything that needs to be worked on. I'm hoping Act 2 goes smoother, but I also fear that some of you haven't thought about Act 2 for over a week and a half (kind of like Act 1).
I'll post the notes here too after I've gone over them with you so you can refer to them as needed. Don't respond to this thread until AFTER i've posted them. Remember some of the things that we talked about for Act 1 such as staying in character, enunciation, and what to do when you don't have lines. I don't want to see any teenagers on stage today!
Please spread this info to anyone you think will not have read it before 2:15. Thanks!

Okay...can someone tell me what the above people did wrong. Those don't count. Act II
Notes for 1st run:
Did everyone see the water bottle thread? Mark your waters and don’t waste them.
Man in Chair- This is a great thought from Kesler- You’ve got most of the lines down, now you need to work on delivery. Aside from how you are saying your lines, (Have you watched those Youtube videos? They can help you…really! ) plant your feet more. You pace a bit more than you really should and when you finally stop and stand…you kind of keep moving. Kesler suggested that we try some monologues where you just don’t move. At all. Like you’ve stuck your feet in mud. We’ll work that tomorrow when we have the time.
Man in Chair- We need to slip a 2nd record into the “Drowsy Chaperone” record sleeve. It is supposed to be a 2-record set, but obviously there is only one record. The whole joke of the 1st song is that you replaced the original record with this new record that is not “Drowsy Chaperone.” So we need that 2nd record for this “mistake.” Obviously when you switch them out you’ll put the real record back on.
Man in chair: You paraphrased right off the bat.
Nightingale girls- As soon as Man exits and the music plays that’s your entrance. What were you waiting for? You missed part of your song.
Stay in character…again for everyone.
Gangster 1 and Gangster 2 we have little finger cymbals for you to use for Nightingale.
Man in Chair: You stopped the record…but then you put the needle on the same record to continue. You acknowledged that you did this, but you do have to switch the records. If you find yourself bored, come out and practice handling the record.
Man in Chair- We’ll get you a real Brandy bottle. There was a glass on your table, but it disappeared.
For all = Remember to not be afraid to project into your mic. It is so much easier to turn you down
Bride’s Lament looks great- There are just a couple of you who seem slightly lost at times. If you want me to name names I could…or I can give them this week to work on it and then call them out next week.
Stage crew- Much better job with fridge.
Tottendale – We need a stand in for her if she misses another rehearsal. We can't fix any of the Underling/Tottendale scenes (or time them) if we are missing an important 1/2 of the duo. Drowsy- Late entrance??
Drowsy making up lines.
Adolpho- You weren’t very Adolphoish with your first lines. You sounded like Morgan.
Robert- paraphrased your 2nd line.
Feldzieg- late entrance- “hold that baquette”
Felzieg- Pointing to the orchestra is in your script. That is a cue for the drums.
Everyone- When Felzieg says “Isn’t she amazing? (regarding Kitty) everyone cheers! It is in the script.
Stage Crew- Maybe practice getting the plane on and off. Remember the wings are fragile Styrofoam, so you can’t really pull on them.
Trix- Your mic wasn’t on. We could barely hear you.
Clouds- If someone has spare time in the next week, we have 4000 cotton balls that can be used to make the clouds.
Man in Chair – It’s “one note away from the end of the show” not “just seconds from the show’s end.” You’re 95% there on lines, but it’s the little things.
Man in Chair- Try to avoid having your back to the audience when you’re singing the Finale.
Supervisor- You dropped your flashlight as you came on during the finale. You don’t need to bring it out.
Finale- ¾ of you are smiling- ¼ are not. It should be 100% Be happy that you survived the show!
Act II – 2nd time
Nightingale- better job getting out there. We want the audience to take in that something is not quite right before you start singing and confirm that fact.
Adolpho in Nightingale- Man refers to you as the man of a 1000 accents and all of them insulting. We need an offensive accent for Nightingale. You still have the Adolpho-ness, but with a bad Chinese accent thrown in.
Some lyrics are getting lost due to the volume of the pit at times. We need to punch the projection up during those times when the pit goes full volume. We don’t want to (and can’t really) turn down the orchestra.
Okay. The monkey hats cracked me up.
Janet/Drowsy scene- Drowsy- You should be on the couch before the lights come up.
Adolpho- you are so reserved today. We need over the top Adolpho- The Hammy actor.
The big freeze during the Man in Chair’s speech about relationships looked good from the cast until Victoria itched her leg. No matter what itches, you can’t move until he’s done talking.
Plane coming on stage looked better, just don’t pull on the wings…. Trix if you want to spin the propeller a couple of times, feel free. It works!
I do! I do! Looks good but the orchestra is eating you up and spitting you out. Don’t hold back.
Supervisor- Great accent- Don’t forget to mention my favorite show Cats in your exit speech. I’m hearing Saturday Night Fever and Miss Saigon…but not Cats and Les Miz
Man in Chair – The back to the audience is really bugging me. Sing that to the audience. Not to the cast at the beginning.
Supervisor- No flashlight 2nd time…good choice.
That's the notes. The deal is 100% response by 12:00 noon on Wednesday. Not 12:01. The people who chimed in above showing off their poor reading skills need to chime in again so it counts. I'm ignoring those.
Okay. Now you can reply.

This is kind of for sound, but I can hardly hear Cohleen during I Do, even when I was in the audience before lights a few weeks ago, maybe up the volume a little on hers, other than that, I read this
