I'm just tossing this here because I noticed some items of a concern this week that should be addressed:
1) Cast members not bringing their scripts/music to rehearsals. Most of you are on the ball, but some of you are forgetting that this is kind of an important part of the rehearsal process. These two items are necessary for your success in this show. I'm actually having to hid my small stash of extra script that I keep in the small box on the risers, because I'm finding that they're being removed. I found one of the piano missing the last pages. These are NOT your scripts. They are destined for the light and sound booths and for our stage manager. I can't give them a script with missing pages from the show. At an upcoming rehearsal, I'm going to have a "surprise" script/music inspection. If you can't show me your script and music, I hope you have a wonderful excuse. I've sent cast members home in the past for this, because unless you've memorized everything, you're useless to us.
2) I know you love talking. It's what actors do. BUT, please be respectful of those who are trying to help you to put on a great show. If you are talking when you should be listening, you're not listening. If you're asked to be quiet while a conductor or a choreographer works with a certain person, that's not a request that you should ignore. I could hear Elizabeth's requests yesterday, and I could tell that she was probably getting frustrated by the lack of courtesy given to her be a small number of you. Elizabeth doesn't have to do this, but she's volunteered to help us out and to share her knowledge of dance. Please don't make her to never want to do something like this again.
3) Where is so and so? I heard this a few times this week too. If you want to grind rehearsal to a dead stop, just disappearing is the best way to do it. I hate to call out Morgan (maybe) but he was guilty of this during our pit rehearsal. If you need to charge your phone, go to the bathroom, get water, whatever...please do it before rehearsal or during times that you know you are not needed. You're wasting our rehearsal time if you're gone when needed.
4) I mentioned this before regarding guests, and for the most part they've been pretty good about not being in the way, but at times they are turning into distractions. Dulce is here everyday because she rides home with Jesus. That's cool. She stays in MC-8 and works on things. Our other guests are part of stage crew. That's cool too, but I think they're a little too distracting for certain cast members who tend to disappear (see 3) when they're around. It's okay to have fun during rehearsals, but when one of our guests keeps you for doing your job, that's when we have a problem. I don't want to ban our guests permanently, but if it continues to be an issue, we may have to go that route.
So you're probably wondering...wow...is Klem in a bad mood? No. You would know when I'm in a bad mood (think Hulk). We are (if you remove Spring Break) only 5 weeks away from Opening week. That's not a lot of time and we have so much left to do. This is why we need you to step up and take things seriously. We don't have time to really waste time.
You have a little over 10 days to memorize Act One, and a little over 17 days to memorize Act Two. If you find some down time, work on memorizing your lines. Most of our props should be in by next week and by the following week I want to replace your scrips with those props.
This isn't really a "test" - we had one, but if you could do me a favor and just let me know you read this that would be great. If you could also help with "redirecting" people who are guilty of things above that would also be appreciated!
Have a good weekend! Be sure to bring your music on Monday! That's all you'll need!
