This week at a glance:
Monday, October 7th
We’re blocking pages 43-55, from the Christmas tree lot to “Oh Fuuuuudge” to Soap Poisoned blind Ralphie. We’ll be dragging out the car to the stage for this one!
Tuesday, October 8th
We’re reviewing all of the blocking so far after a short Drama Club Meeting. If you know anyone interested in helping with lights, sound or stage crew, this is the meeting they should attend. We won’t be need them until November, but we want to make sure we have people recruited for these important jobs. With a new light system, lots of sound effects, music, microphones and set pieces, you’re going to want to have as much help as possible. We do offer to sign off on volunteer hours, so if you know someone who needs them from Honor Society or wherever, this is a great place to get them! We will have a training (hopefully this month) for the light crew to learn how the new light system works.
Anyone who has been required to be here for blocking so far, needs to show up for this rehearsal. We’re going to run all pages at least 3 times to make sure we have this section of the show’s blocking down.
Wednesday, October 9th
We’re moving on with pages 55-77. We’ll be going over Ralphie’s essay assignment all the way up to the delivery of that fragile lamp. If you are in those scenes, please be here.
Thursday, October 10th
From Santa’s appearance to the Little Orphan Annie decoder sequence, we’ll be blocking out pages 78-99. HO. HO. HO.
A few reminders:
-There is no school on Friday! A great time to work on memorizing lines…
-Just because you’re given a white board marker to sign in with, it doesn’t give you permission to draw all over the whiteboard. We like to keep it clean. In the past, some people have written or drawn questionable things on the board (or innocent things that look bad out of context.). Since we have many community and out of town visitors (like former professional WWF wrester Marc Mero Tuesday) using the auditorium, we don’t want to give off bad impressions of Drama Club. So, please no more unauthorized art work or writing.
-Remember to bring your scripts and something to write with each rehearsal. I had to put away the extra scripts because people were “borrowing them” for rehearsals and then just leaving them around backstage. Those are extras for our stage crew, sound crew and light crew.
-Whenever you are backstage, you’re in the “quiet zone.” One of the comments I’ve been hearing is “We can’t hear you from backstage” as an excuse for missing entrances. Unfortunately, we can hear you when you’re talking backstage. It’s your job to know what’s going on stage at all times, even when you’re not on it. One of the best ways to do that is just to pay attention, not talk and always listen.
-You are only 4 weeks away from having to have all of your lines memorized. It seems like a long time…but not really.
-Keep up the great work! Thanks to everyone who braved the weather at Oktoberfest on Friday night! I’m still cold.
