Since some cast members proved that they aren't checking this board when we've told them so often to check this board, please spread the word.
I want you to share your thoughts about how opening night went. Sure, mistakes were made, but we learn from them and vow to improve for the next show. One reason people enjoy live theatre is because...well, it's live! So forget about the bad stuff from opening night, learn from them and move on.
I had a few friends attend last night's show and afterwards they were raving about how good the show was. One of them said, "That was a high school production? They were so good!" another called your show "amazing!" Feel free to share what you've heard, good or bad. Based on the amount of time it took everyone to leave last night, I'm sure you were feeling good overall about how things went. This is why we Drama.
Friday- Show 2 stuff!
5:30 is CALL TIME. I'm not sure why we had people coming in later than that. Remember if you can't make the 5:30 call time, you need to contact either Ashlyn or I. As the Beast would say, it's not a request.
Between 5:30 and 6:45 get your mics (do your mic check by 6:20), costumes, CHECK YOUR PROPS, and put on your makeup. I should have the voting ballots tonight, so that will be on the same table as the poster was last night. Don't forget to vote!
6:25 . HOUSE IS CLOSED. This means that you cannot go past the white curtain on stage. This also means that you cannot hang outside in front of the hallway. Pretend this is just before a wedding and you are the bride.
6:45 . WARM UPS! Also not a request. If you didn't have time to get ready before this time, then you should come in earlier next time. All cast members need to get in the circle. I may sing.
6:55 I'll give you the 5-minute warning and head out to check on pretty much everything. My watch tells me how much I walk in a day, and I clocked in 9 miles yesterday mostly from 5:30-10:00 pm.
7:00 Show begins
9:30ish . Show ends!
For clean up tonight, remember that there is no school on Saturday. You need to put away your mics and costumes, but everything else (mirrors, make up, etc) can stay where it is. My only request is that you pick up ALL of your garbage and dispose of it. The custodian will empty the garbages after you leave. Do not leave any food out unless it's sealed.
Once you have done all of that, you are excused to go to Denny's Night (tm) Have fun! If you haven't figured out rides, figure it out before the show and not after. If you haven't arranged a ride and everyone leaves...then I guess you're not going to Denny's!
Some other things for tonight:
Things are breaking at an alarming rate. I occasionally have to do minor repairs, but I'm finding that I'm having to fix things that I can't figure out how they are broken. The "handle" on the rose? It's just a slight tug to make the rose drop. The plate under the soup bowl? It's in pieces and its only job is to sit on the table and look pretty under the soup bowl. We need to make everything last through next Saturday. Some of the things in the show are things that we borrowed with the promise that we'd return them in the same or better condition. This includes costumes too!
If enough people spread the word, could we have the person who does the fog for the transformation (mainly the fog that comes out of the castle back) keep the fog on from Belle saying "I love you" to Morgan coming back on stage. It's a minute of fog, but I guarantee it'll make the transformation and the rest of the show look "magical" I've asked this a lot, but it's just not being done.
This is a side note for Babette- That finale is being messed up because you are still coming on stage too early for your "Yoo Hoo" entrance. You need to come out on the first notes of the Frenchified "Human Again." If you come out too early, it creates a domino effect that ends in that awkward gap of everyone waiting for the last part of the show. Let Cogsworth and Lumierre have their moment to look at each other. Another help would be if Pricne would not leave with Belle so early. That is still pretty rushed. Morgan, make the moment happen. You're excited to see your friends in their human forms but you don' t let the moment happen. This would also help Babette. Babette...since you enter on the pit side, would it helpful if we could get Mr Kesler to "cue" you to come on?
Also remember to turn off your mics when you are offstage and to turn them on when you are onstage. We had a couple of instances of both last night. Please help those that can't easily get to their mic switches.
Overall though, I thought and obviously others thought that yesterday was a great show! You should really be proud of yourselves how this has turned out. Two weeks ago, I and a few others were worried, but you all did a nice job stepping up over the past few weeks and look at where you are now! I'm proud of all of you! You've given our Drama club something to be proud about. Well done!
Okay...go ahead and share your Thursday thoughts!
