I don’t know if I should make threads on here, but this will be the only one I’ll make here. I rewatched all of the animated Beauty and The Beast and took some notes on character mannerisms and a few other things that I thought might be helpful for the non-ensemble cast if they want to be more in character. Note that you don’t have to do these but these were just things I noticed from the characters.
The Silly Girls have the same hairstyles as three Disney princesses: 1 has Jasmine’s, 2 has Belle’s and 3 has Ariel’s ponytail.
Belle has a habit of moving a small lock of hair from her forehead during important scenes.
Chip is almost always moving, and if he’s standing in place, he’s rocking back and forth.
Lumiere has a lot of hand movement, despite having no fingers.
Gaston stands and walks with his chest out but doesn’t do this when he’s sitting, favouring slouching or hunching over.
Belle uses her apron on her blue dress to clean her book after Gaston drops it.
Maurice talks with a lot of hand gestures, such as throwing his hands up in frustration or waving them around when he’s nervous.
Belle is the only person in town to wear blue (because it makes her stand out). The Beast is the only other character seen wearing blue, and he starts wearing it after his wolf wound is cleaned, wearing red first.
Similarly, Gaston wears red. While other townsfolk where red, no one else wears as vibrant a colour.
Maurice wheezes when he coughs, and he coughs when he’s either in a dusty room or running.
Lefou was the only character to use squash and stretch animation, because he was that energetic.
Cogsworth keeps his hands to himself whenever he can, and Lumiere does the opposite, usually leaning on someone or shaking Cogsworth around.
The characters tremble when the Beast first enters to see Maurice.
Lefou has a slight lisp when he’s not singing.
The Beast walks with a slouch until “Something There”, but the slouch returns briefly as he tells Cogsworth that he let Belle go.
The wardrobe’s head shakes rapidly when she sings.
Lumiere crosses his arms when Cogsworth lectures him.
Babette’s hips move a lot when she walks and turns.
Belle puts Maurice’s hand to her cheek when she says “your hands are like ice.”
Maurice has eyebags between the time that Belle is taken and she returns to him.
Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts and Maurice all have creases on the sides of their mouth to show that they are not young.
Cogsworth’s clock hands on his face are placed at 4:40, making it look like a moustache.
Mrs. Potts and Chip jump around a lot while walking, as if they’re skipping.
Belle tends to keep her arms bent in front of her when she’s walking.
The Beast facepalms himself when Belle runs from the West Wing.
The wolves are constantly barking or snarling when onstage.
Monsieur D’arque’s cheekbones are very large, as are his eyebags to look like a skeleton.
Wardrobe has a slight Irish accent.
When the Beast gifts Belle the magic mirror, he runs his hand through her hair at “so you’ll have something to look back and remember me.”
Gaston never gives the mirror back, holding it in place of a pitchfork or torch during the mob song and losing it before his fight with the Beast.
Gaston wears his hair in a ponytail until he fights the Beast.
When Beast falls limp, Belle briefly covers her mouth and shakes her head before saying her line of “no, no!”
When the Beast turns back into the Prince, his voice is a little higher.
Sorry if I wasn’t supposed to do this. See y’all Monday!
