Rehearsal starts at 2:30 on the dot today!
We'll have the pit in the auditorium today to work with us, so being on time is very important. Assuming they'll take until 2:45 to get completely settled, that gives you 15 minutes to warm up vocally, physically and to get those microphone on you. I don't anticipate starting Act 1 much later than that, so please do not make us wait for you. Spread the word because I'm sure some people will not read this until after rehearsal tonight.
You'll notice that I've been pretty busy here during spring break and the set is pretty much complete. I have some detailing to do (and maybe one furniture swap) but for our purposes, it's pretty ready to go. You'll see a lot of things from previous shows on stage. All of those items have been placed strategically including where they are at and at what angle they are facing. PLEASE DO NOT PICK ANYTHING UP OR MOVE ANYTHING WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST. Due to the nature of the show, I planted "Easter eggs" around the set that reference many of the musicals that I've directed here over the past 15 years. You'll see them and be tempted to touch them....don't.
Please share that too because I know it won't get read by some until after rehearsal tonight. I'll mention it before we begin, but I wanted to put it here before it's too late.
There have been some prop changes (the most major one is the snake basket), so be aware of those.
Mr Kesler is the man in charge of things today. I'll be (hopefully) working with people at the sound board and in the light booth while you run through Act 1. Today will be a lot of starting and stopping and that's completely normal. Watch Kesler for cues (he'll point to you when you are supposed to sing) and do notice that I've placed a tv at the sound board that should have a camera pointed at him so you don't have to watch him directly. Kesler will cue you, but you can't directly stare at him waiting for that cue. It takes you out of character and the audience out of the show. You have to keep him in your peripheral vision or watch him on the television. It's not easy, but it's something to practice over the next 2 weeks.
At the end of Act 1, if we have time, we'll go over some scenes again from Act 1 to polish them up. Near the end of rehearsal, we'll have you return your mics and you'll get to sit on stage while I read every single note that I took during rehearsal. Normally, I put these on line and ask you to respond, but that's just not working for this show for some reason, so we're doing it the old fashioned way.
If you have any questions, just ask!
See you this afternoon! Again, if you read this, just spread the info.
