Drowsy Notes 3/19
This is mostly for missed or paraphrased lines, but there may be some character notes in here as well.
Please respond that you read these. With 4 weeks of rehearsals left, notes will be coming fast and furious.
Man in Chair: P 1 (Isn’t it?) (Oh Lord in Heaven please.) (thought to themselves)(It used to be sitting there in the dark…)(no particular reason)(Isn’t she elegant-a little too late) These are just places where you paraphrased or dropped words. Just go over it some more. Have someone help you out so you can stop and fix your errors as you make them. Also, and this might be for a few of you...use those periods to pause, and breathe before you say your next sentence. Sometimes lines get rushed, and that's just from blowing through the punctuation.
P 7 Tottendale (I shall put on my fancy dress) first time
P 13 Robert (Give up a successful career) not life
P 14 Feldzieg (just “show business” not “The show business”)
P 14 Man (a stupid woman)-not idiot woman
P 15 Man (of course) at the end of your long paragraph
P 15 Feldzieg (Kitty, I don’t have time for this…)
P 15 Kitty (Don’t I know you?)
P 15 Gangster 2- Let Gangster 1 finish the éclair line
P 16 Gangster 1- (In the mean time, feel free…)
P 19 Robert – You’ll be right there at the mirror when Feldzieg exits
“Cold Feets” You 2 should practice whenever you have “down time’
P 21 Man- (wide-eyed expression)
P 21 Robert-(Sorry, George…)
P 22 Robert (George, I don’t know what…)
P 22 Man (Just ignore it speech- paraphrasing)
P 22 Man (So, the scene shifts…)
Show Off- Better than it has been, but it’s obvious that some of you have rehearsed more than others.
P 28 Feldzieg (someone “gullible” )
P 28 Feldzieg (not “the” Aldolpho should be not “THE” Adolpho)
P 29 Adolpho (a big man?) not guy
P 30 Adolpho (Door!)
P 30 Adolpho (Ahh! Through his woman)
P 30 Everyone. Be sure to respond to this thread that you read it by 2:30 tomorrow.
P 31 Adolpho (Adolpho will make love to…)
P 31 Adolpho (What? Pajamas) You forgot What?
P 31 Adolpho (Show me to this cat in pajamas….)
P 32 Tottendale (For instance…) (Maybe you should write it down)
P 33 Tottendale (Well, that’s settled…)
P 34 Tottendale (your short lines…do not include the word vodka)
P 34 Man (there’s a song coming up) not music number
P 35 Janet (freeze after “whirlwind”) Man has a line
P 35 Janet (Underling’s name is Underling)
P 35 Drowsy (The wooziness could be caused by any..
P 36 Man (paraphrasing top speech)
P 36 Janet (Really, you’re not being a bit helpful…)
P 36 Janet (Oh, that not necessary…)
P 37 Janet Man has a line during the “playoff”
P 38 Adolpho- You enter and say the line. Check out the script here.
P 39 Adolpho- (transport you)
P 39 Adolpho (You must remember…) so ironic
P 40 Adolpho (And how should you refer to me?)
P 42 Robert (I’m sorry, who am I speaking to…)
P 43 Janet (how do you say it in English…)
P 44 Janet (and then what happened?)
P 45 Janet and Robert check out the ending to your song. You have those 2 lines before the end of the song)
P 46 Feldzieg (kitty. Not now)
P 46 Kitty (I’ve been working on…)
P 46 Gangster 1 (Now it’s time you…)
Toledo Surprise- Gangster 1, you seem to be a few seconds behind Gangster 2- You need to be 100% synchronized.
Overall, not too bad for a first "off book" rehearsal, but obviously we need some work.
If you find time, this is where we start getting into character. Watch the zillions of Youtube videos of "The Drowsy Chaperone" and see how other actors have handled your character. You can also use those videos to practice your lines and songs since they use the same "soundtrack" as we will be using for our show. You might even pick up some cool things that others have done with your character. Anything that you think can make your character more believable or enjoyable for the audience can make the show a richer experience.
Don't forget to do the thing mentioned on page 30, and we'll see you tomorrow at 2:30 around the piano to warm up!
