For the purposes of rehearsal, we're going to moving away from the CD with the singers and transitioning into using the RehearScore for rehearsals from now on. The main reason is so I can actually hear your voices on stage, and not whomever is singing on the CD. A few weeks of some of you lip synching and not actually singing seems to have made some of you forget some things you learned during music rehearsals. That was apparent in the pit rehearsal yesterday.
Drama Club paid $300 for the opportunity to use the RehearScore and you were given info on how to access it. It won't work on Chromebooks, but it'll work on any other computer that is a Mac or PC. The RehearScore contains the entire soundtrack of the show and you can easily follow it with your music/scripts. If you haven't been using it, why not? It's a great tool for learning the music and practicing the songs.
As we do pit rehearsals, I'll be recording the band as they play and we'll piece by piece replace the RehearScore with the pit recordings. So by the end of the month, we should be transitioned away from RehearScore and using the pit recordings. The pit recordings won't be perfect because sometimes they are stopped by Kesler, but at some point I'll sit in with the pit and record the entire show without you around and no stops.
One more thing. Some of you have lines in your songs. It's in your script, but not in your music. The script is what we follow. I'll try to catch your missed lines if I can, but take a look and see if you have any lines during songs and be sure to add them in. If the words are different on the CD, the script again is what we follow. Do not say the lines from the CD. They sometimes edit those for time or context and are not what is in the script. If you've been lip synching to the CD, make sure you aren't changing the script!
One thing that we would like to do at each rehearsal, that falls on the day before pit rehearsal, is review the songs we are going to sing with the pit. Victoria is happy to hear this. That way if you've forgotten something, we can fix it then, and not during pit rehearsal.
One almost last thing: Attendance. So far many of you doing a great job with attendance! As always, if you are sick, just let us know. I think we'd prefer you to get better, than make all of us sick. If you have an appointment or family emergency, also just let us know. Other than that, please plan to be here from 2:30 to 5. If you are running late, please let us know and tell us how long you'll be. Within 2 weeks on the calendar (March 19 and on), you'll notice that EVERY DAY, ALL CAST will need to be present EVERY DAY. From 2:30-5 we'll be working on "polishing" the show. New things will be flying at you every single rehearsal and if you're not here, you'll create problem areas for us. I don't think we can emphasize that enough.
Okay, last thing. We have yet to get 100% on any tests, and that's sad with a cast of only 16. Please respond that you read this by Monday, March 12th at 2:30 pm. We're doing choreo that day. I have to leave at 4:00 for a "Hamilton" meeting in Seattle, but you'll be in the capable hands of Elizabeth and Ashlyn. I have to meet with some guy whose name rhymes with Chin-Manual Veranda, so I apologize in advance.
