I thought it would be interesting to share our thoughts on what we thought of the elementary school matinee and how it went.
I thought your audience was really great overall considering their age. I loved watching how intensely they were watching the show. I think they were mesmerized. That's pretty good when you can keep the attention of 1st-3rd graders. We would've had 4th and 5th graders too, but apparently testing was much more important. So, they got to take tests instead. Sad.
Overall, I thought you all were wonderful. Usually the first day back after a short break can bring out some big issues, but there wasn't anything huge. I just noted Maurice breaking his machine on the curtain as he came out (watching the white curtain take out the entire top of the machine was horrifying from my viewpoint-also where was your helmet?) . Belle's pink dress seemed to have some awkward issues for a children's matinee (way to keep it up), and Belle and Beast had some weird giggle fit during "Beauty and the Beast." Other that that (and a messed up light crew that I addressed with the light crew) I thought everything went pretty swimmingly. These kids are going to go home and talk about the show to everyone and anyone they see and that's great for you! In 10 years, inspired by your performance, they'll take Drama in high school, and that's great for me!
I had no other notes for today except Wardrobe does need her spear -It's an opera thing. I think today was the first day that I was able to watch as an audience member and I loved what I saw.
Tomorrow night we're back at 5:30 pm. Please be on time, or let Ashlyn or I know why you are late. Warmup will be at 6:45 and the show starts at 7:00 sharp! You'll hopefully notice the crowds will be bigger than they've ever been over the past week because word-of-mouth will be insane. This is also a big week for us because we'll be hosting some special guests from a certain Seattle Theatrical company on all three nights plus a confirmed visit from Disney Theatricals...so no pressure. Just keep giving us the same energy and great show you've been presenting!
Share your thoughts below and any encouragement you can give for these final 3 shows!
Seriously, how cute was this.
