Twas the week before performances.
Welcome to the 2nd most exhausting week you'll have on this show. The most exhausting one is the week after.
Here's the basic plan for each date. We'll need to really do our part so we can get you out of here close to "on time" each day because we're combining Act One and Act Two together this week!
Do note that we could end up going until 6:00 some days, so try to stay the entire time if possible. The goal is to finish by 5:30, but that's if things go well. PIt will be leaving us at 5:30 , so I personally would like to hit that goal, but please be flexible. If you haven't asked for the time off from work...make sure that you have it. As always DO not schedule any appointments or other things during this scheduled time. One missing person can be problematic at this point in the rehearsal process. This entire journey has been like one big puzzle and there's nothing more frustrating than getting close to finishing the puzzle and realizing you have a missing piece.
April 15
Normally, we do our first combined rehearsal of Act One and Act Two, but boy we aren't quite ready for such a big step yet. The pit will be joining us this Monday and the plan is now to work on ANYTHING that needs work. I have some things I've put a pin in, but if you have things on your list, you can feel free to mention them in the comments. Your list might be similar to mine.
When you are not onstage working whatever scenes we are working, the expectation is that you will be working on something else from the show either in MC-8 or the Band room. It can be music, choreography, or even LINES. We know where the rough spots in dialogue are, I marked them on Tuesday and Thursday's notes for you. Get with those in your scene and work things out. Unsure about music and Victoria is available? Work on music. Choreography issues, make some space and work on that. Need character help? Work on that...We also have other things that can be worked on behind the scenes. Stage crew can practice scene changes and have them planned out completely so we can make those quick changes needed. Bottom line is that we shouldn't have anyone sitting around.
I'm assuming the pit will be ready for us around 2:45 or so again. Let's try to get here as soon as we can after school and do a great thorough warm up going by 2:30. We'll probably tackle the bigger things in each Act, so be prepared to be pulled away from whatever you are working on as needed.
The goal for this day is to iron out the wrinkles, so then we can do this:
April 16
This will be our first full show run with the pit. Because of the length of the show, we need you to waste as little time as possible getting here after school. Once you arrive, sign in (always first!) and go get your microphones. If we have a sound person we can test them, but we really probably have no time for that. I suspect that the pit will be ready to roll again by 2:45, so please check your props before we start. We won't have time for a show chat, so instead by 2:30 I want you to be warming up. If you're running late, warm up on the way to MC-8.
On goal on Tuesday is to is to be alert to what's going on at all times. This is our first chance to see what the show looks like as a whole. We'll have EVERYTHING going like an actual show except for costumes. Will things run smoothly? Heck no, but I'll be taking notes throughout the entire thing for your to read and then work on. After we're done, if time permits we'll talk about how we felt things went and if there are any major issues, we can address them.
April 17th and 18th.
Same plan as Monday and Tuesday...minus the pit. We may run the entire show...or we may choose to work out areas that still need work. We may just run Act 1 on the 17th and Act 2 on the 18th. It's up in the air and depends on how April we feel after Tuesday.
April 19
2:30-midnight
Not a typo. This is our annual "lock in" rehearsal. Do note because there is always someone who is concerned about this : We do not actually "Lock you in" auditorium. You are free to open a door or two.
This is the plan for now:
We will do a full run with the pit beginning at 2:45. No costumes. It'll be just like April 15th and 16th, but better because we'll have worked out any issued on April 17th and 18th. It's the entire show, so we'll be done by 5:30 if all goes well.
From about 5:30-6 I'll go over any notes that I have taken and we can talk about any concerns or thoughts you all may have.
6:00-8:30 We eat and do whatever. Some people play games, some just hang out, others sleep... it's your time. We'll have a sign up thread on Monday for food. Drama Club is supplying pizza, but anything else is up to you. We'll need drinks, chips, plates, napkins, etc. Just wait for that thread to sign up.
8:30 We do another run of the entire show but without the pit....unless you bribe them to stay. We've had a 75% success rate with that over the past 15 years, so do your best! They won't have Kesler or Knowles, so they won't be 100% as great as they were earlier, but they will do their best without their leader.
We should be done by 11:30 at the latest if all goes well. The rest of the time is for cleaning up and getting ready to go home where you will sleep for the next 2 days straight resting up for this the biggest week of this entire process.
Welcome to HELL week.
Oh, wait, we have little kids in the cast. Welcome to HECK week.
