ACTOR’S CONTRACT
This is basically on "online" copy of your Actor's contract that was in your audition packet. You gave me one signed (which I will keep) and you'll get another one on Tuesday (which you will keep)
This version clarifies some of the things below. If you have any questions, just ask in this thread!
One more thing. Please respond below that you read this. I want to make this the first TEST of the website. We need 100% of the cast responding by the first Friday of rehearsals.
Here's the contract with the clarifications:
A role in a Marysville Pilchuck theatre production is exciting, challenging, and demanding in many ways, and it is only proper that participants fully understand the extent of the commitment required of them. The following contract contains the basic provisions of this commitment, and for the good of the show it is expected that all participants sign and adhere to it.
BY ACCEPTING A ROLE IN THIS PLAY, I AGREE THAT I WILL:
1) Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances, except for the serious illness or family emergency. Unexcused absences will be grounds for dismissal. Missing more than three rehearsals will result in removal from the show.
We've had issues in the past (especially when it starts getting nice out) with actors blowing off rehearsals. With this show, each and every rehearsal is important. If you miss a rehearsal, you miss 2 1/2 hours of information. I took the time to narrow down what we would be doing on each date and it's up to you to know when you need to be here. Please be sure to schedule any appointments during times where you are not needed. Choreography days are the worst days to miss FYI.
2) Notify the director or school in case of illness or emergency. My cell phone number is 425-328-9153. Write that down somewhere.
There is no excuse to just not show up for a rehearsal. There are so many options available to you to contact me. If you can't make it, just text me. If you can't text me, EVERYONE has a Chromebook, and you can access this website. We also have Facebook and Twitter. There will be a "I can't make it to rehearsal because...." thread starting next week. Use that. Some of you had "unsure" dates in your audition packets. As soon as you know those dates (MG's trip to Disneyland for example) let us know.
3) Maintain satisfactory academic standing in all course work during the rehearsal/performance period. Failure in course work may result in dismissal.
Every other year, I get a parent who threatens to remove their child from the show because they are failing classes. Unfortunately, classwork is more important than Drama (What? I know.) Please keep up on your classes. You are always welcome to hang out in MC-8 during rehearsals (when you are not needed) and work on school work.
4) Be very careful with ALL microphones, costumes and hand props in the show. Damage to items due to negligence may result in student fines.
Basically if you break it, you buy it. Some of the items in our show belong to us and others are rented. Some of the items are very expensive to replace. That's why we have a strict policy on not touching something that does not belong to you. This includes microphones, costumes and props. We're a small budget show and if things get broken, that doesn't help us.
5) Make reasonable changes in hair style and appearance, as determined by the director.
I'm not going to make you shave your head, but you may be asked to wear a wig or a costume that you may or may not like. If you have issues, please talk to me.
6) Study lines and cues outside of rehearsal in order to learn them as efficiently as possible. This show does require work outside of rehearsal time.
Every year I see a sad example of this where a student goes to rehearsal, does everything asked of them...and forgets everything before the next rehearsal. When you learn a song, a dance or blocking, you're expected to work on it on your own (or wth others) outside of rehearsal. When we have to reteach you something, you take time away from learning new stuff. Please give 100% or more. It becomes painfully obvious, as we get closer to show date, who has been practicing and who has not.
7) Maintain and exemplary citizenship record in all aspects of student life. Suspension from school or violation of school policies may be grounds for dismissal.
I always say "Don't rob a bank" until after the show closes. If you break rules, you pay the price and sometimes that price is removal from the show. I have no choice. Do know that this also applies to any bullying or harassment either physically or through the use of social media. The Marysville School District has a zero tolerance policy with that and if any students shows me evidence that you've been bad mouthing, making fun of or taunting them on social media, your Drama career in high school is over. Be smart.
8) Participate willingly in all production aspects of the show.
You may be asked to do some extra stuff that you didn't expect to do. One example in this show is the Cronies/Enchanted Objects crossing over to each other sides. We need big groups for some of the bigger numbers like "Be Our Guest", "Gaston" and "Human Again." and with a small cast, we need to stretch our resources.
9) Daily check the Drama Club website at mphsdramaclub.freeforums.net or www.mrklem.com . This is how we communicate when we are not rehearsing. It’s mandatory.
There is no excuse. This is where we communicate things after you've gone home. There may be notes from me, music, choreography, rehearsal changes and more posted here. We tend to get a little mad if you don't take time to see what's new.
10) Work at all times with the best interests of the cast, not the individual, in mind. This includes checking personal conflicts at the door!
This is sometimes that hardest part of Drama...acting like you like the people in the cast. For 2 1/2 hours you have to get along with everyone. Please don't bring your personal issues to rehearsal. My former Drama teacher's always said "Leave your egos and personal conflicts at the door and pick them up on the way out." Your goal for the time you are here is to focus on the making this the best show possible. That's everyone's goal here.
That's it. Please respond that you read and understand this and thanks for auditioning for the show! You're going to have a great time if everyone follows the rules!
